Argentina’s latest car import policy

New car policy: From February 2025, the 20% consumption tax will be cancelled for fuel vehicles priced between $40,000 and $73,000, and the tax rate for luxury cars over $73,000 will be reduced from 35% to 18%; electric vehicles within the annual quota of 50,000 vehicles will be exempt from import tariffs (FOB price ≤ $16,000).

Second-hand car policy:

Tariff: The tariff for fuel vehicles is 81% of the CIF price, 100% for diesel vehicles, and 65% for motorcycles.

Access requirements: Left-hand drive vehicles are allowed to be imported without age restrictions; they must pass the LCM certification of the Ministry of Industry, IRAM standards, and emission testing of the Ministry of Environment; personal imports require proof of residence, and diplomats and citizens who have lived abroad for a long time can import one car tax-free.

Temporary import: Temporary import is allowed within the validity period of the visa, and re-export or tax-free sale is required after the expiration date.
